Song of the Week: “Long Line of Leavers” by The Union Revival

The Union Revival is a husband and wife music duo from Waco, Texas, that presents a modern take on folk/storyteller music, and their most recent song “Long Line of Leavers,” hits close to home.

The Union Revival was formed in Waco after Aaron Konzelman and his future wife Amanda met at McLennan Community College 20 years ago. Both of their families raised them around music, and their love of music connected them instantly.

According to Konzelman, this latest song, “Long Line of Leavers,” touches on his past. When talking about its inspiration, he opened up about how his family was a major influence in writing it.

“All the family started moving away and moving back up to Nashville where everyone else was and our family just kind of shrunk,” Konzelman said. “It made me start thinking about where we come from and our stories.”

The video was filmed live in one take at a VRBO RV at Green Acres Retreat in Elgin, Texas, and is part of what he calls the Airstream Sessions.

The Union Revival kicked off a series of Waco shows with a recent performance at the Brazos Park Beer Festival on September 4, 2021. Upcoming gigs include:

  • September 18 — Opening for John Conlee at the Waco Hippodrome Theatre
  • September 24 — Brotherwell Brewing
