Song of the Week: “Grounded” by Far From Reach

Far From Reach is a group of five friends with Waco roots that create rock songs like “Grounded.”

Far From Reach consists of five members who have been making music together since 2018: Cassie Monaghan (vocals), Ignacio “Nacho” Gonzales (bass), Lawrence “Lenny/Sexy Pants” Monaghan (guitar), Michael “Mike” Johnson (lead guitar), and Gary Summers (drums).

Their song “Grounded” follows the journey of a girl who feels “crashing under her feet like the ocean.” It looks at her struggles and how she is dealing with everything life throws at her, touching on the different feelings and emotions that go through her head because “she feels it all.”

“Like pretty much all of our tunes, one of the guys — Lenny in this case — comes up with a riff. We get a general song layout going, and then I write lyrics afterward or find previous lyrics and set it to the song,” said vocalist Cassie Monaghan. “For ‘Grounded,’ I set the intention to write a song about how I stay positive and ground myself with all of the constant changes that life brings.”

The song’s video begins on the porch of a yellow house with a man putting a foreclosure notice on it. Following this scene, there are numerous shots of the band performing on stage at the Backyard, standing around a fire, and kids running around outside the house.

Tim Murphy, the video’s director and producer, explained: “In a world where everyone is a victim of their own circumstances and excuses for our own misery abound, ‘Grounded’ provided the opportunity to tell a different story. Instead of rebelling and making the world a horrible place because of her situation and circumstances, our hero connected to something bigger and focused on life and all that it offered her instead of what it took away.”

Far From Reach regularly performs around Waco, and at these shows, you’ll experience the band’s high-energy dynamic. They are a fun and lively group that is always looking to rock while making a connection to the crowd.

“I like to say if you can’t feel the love, emotions, and connections we’re sharing and conveying, we aren’t doing our job as artists or entertainers,” said Monaghan.

Far From Reach opens for The Revelators at the Backyard Bar Stage & Grill on November 5, 2021.
