Payton Bryce, aka “Pirscription,” was born in Clifton, Texas, and grew up in the Central Texas area, his “turf.” His upbringing in a small Texas town influenced his musical journey and has led him to opportunities with multiple business ventures.
“Living in Central Texas, it has always been a real guerrilla-style mentality when it comes to making a living off music,” said Pirscription. “I went from rapping to producing, promoting, being the videographer, and graphic designer to being able to do so many things and wear so many different hats. It’s put me in many places and gave me lots of opportunities to build relationships and push my music.”
“Trunk Sang,” featuring Trilly Polk and Chalie Boy, has a fast-paced, country-inspired beat and was produced by San Antonio-based producer Almari. In it, Pirscription raps, “You gonna respect this hustle, you gonna respect this flow. You gonna respect this spirit, you gonna respect this soul.”
“Once we started vibing to it, the tone for the song was set,” Pirscription said. “I was just glad to be a part of the whole thing. It felt like an epic moment for the culture at the time.”
The video switches between different urban and country settings, including a barn and a rodeo arena. A yellow python is featured prominently along with horses and tricked-out four-wheelers. A mix of country and hip-hop, it parallels Pirscription’s identity as a rapper.
Pirscription also loves performing live, especially with “Pirscription and Friends,” which consists of many different musicians. These include Sean Anderson (keyboards), Torvice Asberry (drums), Gerald Wilburn and Michael Golden (horns), and vocalists Chyrie and Blame It On Nicholas.
Another Pirscription project is the Private Hip-Hop Podcast with co-host Mary Jane on Rogue Media Network. The podcast has almost 20 episodes so far and promotes local talent and up-and-coming artists such as Kam KT and Floetic Desire.
While Pirscription usually performs in the Metroplex, Austin, Houston, and San Antonio, you can periodically catch him hosting Keep Waco Loud’s weekly Monday open mic night at Stay Classy Waco.
