Waco Live Music

Holly Tucker| Freight Bar | 8 pm, Friday, March 24

Holly Tucker may look fresh-faced and squeaky clean, but she’s logged over 10 years of making her way through the country music world. From her stint back in 2013 on The Voice through today, she’s cultivated a crisp, clear vocal style that embodies traditional country without sounding stuck in the past. Hear it for yourself when she plays Freight Bar on Friday night.

$5 cover.

Abby Holliday with Thinking Caps | Common Grounds | 8 pm, Saturday, March 25

For fans of forward-looking pop music, Nashville singer-songwriter Abby Holliday performs at Common Grounds on Saturday night. Holliday mixes acoustic guitar parts with lush arrangements and treated vocals reminiscent at times of Sleigh Bells (albeit more toned down). Introspective without descending into sad girl music, it’s a show Waco doesn’t see very often.  Thinking Caps open.

Tickets are $10 and are available online.

Garrett Bryan and The Traveling City Committee with Dayne Pack | Texas Music Cafe | 7 pm, Saturday, March 25

Having grown up in Mississippi and Louisiana, Garret Bryan learned early on to embrace both Delta blues and the R&B soul music of Percy Sledge. That is to say, as opposed to just playing the three different types of blues songs—the fast one, the slow one, and the one in-between—Bryan and The Traveling City Committee employ a varied sonic palette that hits high and low dynamics galore. And while you may not be familiar with their music, take advantage of your chance to see them at Texas Music Cafe. Dayne Pack opens.

Tickets are $20 and are available online.

Zechariah Grey| Camp Fimfo | 7 pm, Saturday, March 25

Camp Fimfo has quickly become a live local music go-to in Waco, and that continues on Saturday night when Zechariah Grey performs. Combining soulful lyrics with a bluesy guitar style, Grey will help you mellow down easy with his set at Squirrely’s Tavern.

Ozomatli | The Pavilion at the Carleen Bright Arboretum | 7 pm, Thursday, March 30

Rescheduled after the arctic blast Waco had at the beginning of February, Ozomatli plays The Pavilion at the Carleen Bright Arboretum next Thursday night.

The LA-based band has been together for almost 30 years and has a freewheeling sound that incorporates salsa, funk, jazz, hip-hop, reggae, and more. Founding members Jiro Yamaguchi and Ulises Bella describe it as “You drive down Sunset Boulevard and turn off your stereo and roll down your windows and all the music that comes out of each and every different car… it’s that crazy blend that’s going on between that cacophony of sound is Ozomatli.”

Tickets are $30 and are available online.
