The concept of authenticity, which involves our active participation in shaping our identity and contributing something distinctive to the world, is a modern notion. In its ideal state, authenticity is a good; however, its actualization is closely tied to another recent idea—the negative experience of loneliness. Is it possible to achieve the benefits of authenticity without grappling with the unwanted burden of loneliness?
